APCAT Community Safety Tips

Troncones and Majahua are peaceful and welcoming communities, but it’s always good to stay informed and take basic precautions. For informational purposes only – Verify details independently.

General

  • Stay informed, follow local news, community groups, and listen to the radio.  
  • Register with your Embassy, save their emergency contact information.  
  • Prepare for Emergencies and Weather Events. Hurricane season is June-November.

Cultural Awareness

  • Learn basic Spanish.
  • Build relationships with locals. 
  • Respect local customs & environment.
  • Avoid displaying valuables, carrying excessive cash or multiple credit cards.

Crime

Medical Safety 

There are NO local hospitals. The nearest are in La Unión and Zihuatanejo.

Water Safety
There are NO regular lifeguards. Educate yourself and guests about water safety, especially riptides. Local surf instructors have some training, but may not be available when needed. 

Fire Safety

There is NO local Fire Department. Educate yourself and guests about fire safety. 

  • Install Fire Extinguishers, Fire Blankets, and Smoke Detectors. Check regularly.

Driving & Road Safety

  • Gas up in advance.
  • Drive a low-profile vehicle – Luxury SUVs & trucks are targets. 
  • Avoid driving on highways at night due to risks such as wildlife, lack of cell service.
  • Hire local professional taxi drivers.
